Decorating a Bedroom

We (hopefully) spend about a third of our lives in bed, so getting the bedroom right is important.

As Autumn approaches it may be a good time to put some thought into the subject.

Subtle colouring, and coordination with fabrics, including curtains, has been made easier with the various online tools now available (see our earlier item about the Dulux Visualiser here).

But there is no real substitute for seeing the real effects of light in the actual room you are decorating. This is only really possible by using tester pots of paint and actual fabric swatches.

To see how a colour really looks in a room it needs to be viewed in different lighting conditions, and in different places around the room – the effect of light makes a big difference to the appearance of the paint. Rather than make a mess of several walls, this can be done by painting a piece of white card and holding it against the wall in different places.

A recent trend to paint woodwork, picture frames and bedroom furniture in a darker shade of the wall paint can look very attractive. It can also harmonise pieces of furniture which might otherwise look out of place, such as storage units.

Our job, once you’ve made your colour decisions, is to put them into effect on the walls and woodwork. At this point, attention to detail is what can make a good design really work, or simply look half-baked. Getting the walls right, properly preparing the woodwork, and simply getting a full and even coverage of paint are simple matters, but vital. There is no room for half-done preparation, something our teams know well.
