Long-term repair for window frames

I wanted to let you know about our repair service for windows.

Many London homes still have fine wooden window frames which are in many cases well over 100 years old. The workmanship of the original carpenters and the longevity of the original lead-based paints are hard, if not impossible, to replicate today. Even the original woods used were more slowly grown and reputed to be better aged than currently available stock.

But these old frames need care, and sadly some of the past repairs we find fall well below the original quality of the frames. “Regular” quality standard fillers and failure to completely remove rotten wood simply hide problems, which then get worse under the surface.

We use the RepairCare International system to repair these windows. It is the most reliable repair system on the market and comes with specialised tools and training, and with fillers which bond directly onto the wood.

We start by removing all the rotten wood, which always extends further than is visible. We then coat the area with a sealant which keeps the wood dry and seals it so that moisture cannot permeate the wood. The RepairCare resins then create a chemical bond with the sealant and build back to the shape of the frame. After setting and sanding back, this creates a perfect surface for fresh paint, which can then be expected to live up the manufacturer’s claims for longevity.

The frames look like new and, with normal maintenance, should last for many years to come.
