2020 Trends

What will the trends be in 2020?

The year so far

The key word this year has been grey. Let’s talk about it for a moment.
Grey has been everywhere this year. You couldn’t miss it! Magazines, Pinterest, Instagram, TV, you name it, it’s everywhere. Whether you like it or not, I am sure you can agree that it does give a timeless look to your home. Maybe it is new white and stay on trend for years?

I have seen kitchen cabinets painted a rich grey colour, pale grey on feature walls to whole houses painted in various tones on grey.

Dark blues and bold wallpaper has also been the trend. Botanical and flamboyant paper designs are fashionable and make a house feel lively and full of fun.

This year has definitely been filled with glamour and rich colours.

So what will the trends be for 2020? What does 2020 look like?

A word I have heard is Japandi. What exactly is this?

Well how about combining the best elements of beautiful Japanese minimalism with simple but warm Scandinavian design. Japandi is a mix of two cultures that are seriously stylish. When I think of both, I think of simple, uncluttered comfort. If you like to have an organised, calm space with muted colours, then this is for you.

I am sure by now you have heard of the terms; Hygge and KonMari. One is about comfort and one is about less being more. Both are wonderful ways to make your home not just a house.

With Japandi you can create somewhere to relax after a long day at work and where you can be comfortable with the family. Natural is also a key word when thinking about Japandi. Green plants, natural colour tones, wood and warm textures are a simple way to create a comfortable retreat. Muted colours are in.

What should you do for 2020?

At the end of the day you may not even care about what the trends are and want to keep with classic white or the wonderful grey shades that we have loved this year. You have to work out what your style is and the kind of colour scheme that you feel happy to have in your home. Pleasing the neighbours or friends isn’t really the most important thing. It’s about pleasing you and the people who share your home.

So take a look around your home and see what you would like to improve. Do a mood board, look on Instagram or Pinterest to see what ideas you like. Then just go for it. Create a home you are proud of.
